Account manager

We’re seeking an Account Manager with experience in strategic communications and public affairs.  The Account Manager will be responsible for managing client accounts and developing and executing communications strategies, and must have strong writing skills. The ideal candidate will have five years of experience working for a prior strategic communications and/or PR firm.

Responsibilities include: 

  • Developing and executing communications and public affairs client strategies;
  • Managing client accounts and projects;
  • Drafting press releases, fact sheets, messages, strategy memos, articles, proposals, and client thought leadership;
  • Working with reporters and pitching stories;
  • Building and updating media lists and databases;
  • Creating presentations;

Requirements:
The ideal candidate will have:

  • 2-4 years experience at strategic communications, PR, or public affairs firms;
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher;
  • Strong writing skills;
  • Ability to thrive in a start-up environment and under pressure;
  • Strong organizational ability;
  • Detail-oriented;
  • Experience working with reporters and placing stories;
  • Experience overseeing client accounts.

Director

The firm is looking to hire someone for the position of Director, which has the following core responsibilities:

  • Oversee and execute efforts for five to seven clients, contributing to strategy-setting and tactic selection, managing the day-to-day relationships with those clients, and ensuring that the firm carries out the agreed-upon strategies and tactics;
  • Work closely with clients to develop effective messaging for targeted audiences;
  • Prepare talking points, Q&As, fact sheets, and other documents to support messaging and work execution;
  • Work closely with reporters and influencers, pitching stories, responding to incoming media inquiries, and developing longer-term relationships on clients’ behalves;
  • Help reach out to, and obtain the support and help of, third-party validators for client communications campaigns and policy issues;
  • Coordinate digital and social media campaigns;
  • Monitor current events and news coverage in fields related to clients, both to build knowledge of clients’ businesses and industries and to opportunistically obtain coverage for clients;
  • Prepare regular updates to clients about work performed and related topics;
  • Draft written materials, including bylined op-eds, blogs, and other thought leadership for clients;
  • Supervise, coach, and mentor more junior staff and help ensure they are developing professionally;
  • Help secure new business, including researching potential clients, drafting proposals, and attending meetings with potential clients; and
  • Engage in marketing for the firm, including drafting blogs for the website, connecting with others in the industry and potential clients, and speaking at events.

Qualifications include:

  • 7-10 years of broad client experience, preferably at an agency;
  • A strong work ethic and a desire to over-deliver for clients;
  • A passion to create and implement tailored, strategic communications campaigns that drive clients’ reputations and brands;
  • Leadership experience and a desire to manage a team while working with the team on day-to-day execution;
  • Excellent written and oral communications skills;
  • Ability to manage multiple clients and client projects simultaneously; and
  • Substantial experience working with reporters.
